i. With this thinking, this committee will soon outlaw ISA, tax free allowance etc (most likely retrospectively) so that people cannot avoid paying tax!
ii. They should ask themselves about their own tax sheltering arrangements including all their so called 'expenses' scandals including property flipping... They would say they were within the rules!!!
iii. HMRC's own officers have used PCS and other arrangements... get them 'retrospectively' as well...

I'm amazed those guys, particularly McKenna, didn't advise her that he comments might be actionable! I'm sure Whitehouse will not give her such an easy time of it when they get an audience!

She used to be Children's minister. Lives in Islington. 10 Richmond Crescent. Used to be next to the Blairs. Which was how someone as stupid as her got as far as she did.

Quite a few threatening letters have gone through her door. I have no idea who did them.

Yesterday I get a brown envelope like the sort HMRC send. As ever I nearly sh4t myself. Turned out only to be my driving licence renewal.

Until Hodge repeals s58 she is totally fooking evil. HMRC are liars and deserve it.

And I'm not too sure about the phrase "frustrate the intentions of Parliament", either. It strikes me as a cop-out whereby Parliament can distance itself from the responsibility of expressing its intentions precisely in law.

Is that an unfair interpretation? It does seem morally questionable that Parliament should heap the most incomprehensible tax legislation upon the UK population and then just say "Get on with it!".

It's all very well for the Committee Members to ask the first witness how he sleeps at night, but they weren't exactly falling over themselves to acknowledge Parliament's role in creating this mess.

Actually, I thought the first witness was making some useful contributions to the debate, most of which were airily, pompously ignored by the Committee.
