Apologise and assure them what you did was a mistake. Promise to delete the files from your records. Then wait...I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).Comment

Should i ask legal advice first before i meet them or should i meet them first and see what they want ?

I do wonder why they are digging into this now? It is probably an audit going on - and they want to make an example of you.
I do hope that you did nothing else with the document(it sounds like you did nothing else) then they will probably just want to make an example of you. But one wrong word can blow it out of all proportion.Comment

I am reminded of when I was contracting at Chase before it was taken over by JPM. So 1997.
They wanted rid of a dealer. Went through his emails and found rude jokes. Sacked him.
Then panic about tribunals and unfair dismissal. He was picked on. So they went through all trading floor emails.
They sacked 3 others. 10% got final written warnings. 10% got verbal warnings.
The guy I sat next to objected as he was accused of "pornographic" emails. Another on the team was a lawyer. They both went to a meeting to HR and agreed to accept the final written warning is the word pornography was removed.

In many ways I am pleased the current clientco has a no external email rule.Comment
