Does anyone know how to open a (client) Dell laptop with a stuck latch?

Shame this thread in not in general as I bet the congregation have a few witty suggestions.
WHS
Although given that the latch is a simple piece of sliding metal, the fact that it's stuck is probably due to a foreign object being caught in the slot somewhere.

Try a little (slight) sideways pressure on the upper leafe (screen section) as you press the button (not too much!) try it to both right and left. I had the same prob with one of my Dells and it was a piece of screen wipe cought up on the latch knob on the upper leaf.

I never did manage it in the end, Mr C sorted it when he go home...
There's no point using the knife, the latch is inside the casing and sometimes the open button shifts and jams the latch, preventing it from opening.
Ah well...
