It’s the Apple Event at 18:00, announcing the new iPhones and such. Will this be the year I get a new one? There’s only been three such years in the history of the Universe, so the odds are against it

Mum is pleased with the hairdo. Turns out she'd been doing some random DIY trimming which made things a bit more difficult but the hairdresser had no doubt seen worse.

I think it made her feel a bit more normal to be doing things like going to the hairdresser, so I will endeavour to make it a more frequent occurrence for her.

Lunch has been a roast beef bap (wholemeal)

The gardener is here, trimming hedges and such. I didn’t think the lawn had managed to grow enough recently to be worth mowing but he seems to have done it anyway

The shower head has been dealt with and an attempt at encouraging the shower to drain better has been made. Might push a hoover around at some point.

History group coffee morning at local pub soon. Dunno what else to do wiv me day apart from me walky, new fence panel ain't arrived yet.

Updateipoo: Oh yeh, book reading group this afternoon. Ain't read anything as usual. Tried three books, all boring rubbish. Why do books have to ramble on for a whole page about things like what somebody looks like? I want them to get to the exciting bits, like zombies popping out of the cupboard.

After a bit of "presenteeism" to justify some billing, I'll be taking a look at the shower to delimescale the shower head and improve its draining. Also, taking Mum to the hairdresser to get her hair properly washed.

Tonight’s new book was Dawn by Octavia E. Butler, the first part of her Lilith’s Brood trilogy, in which a woman wakes up after a war has devastated Earth to find she’s one of the survivors recovered by aliens who go around the galaxy doing genetic modifications

Tomorrow will be a pretty quiet day at work because they’re having the quarterly portfolio planning session in Manchester, so most people won’t be around. This afternoon, I managed to get my SSH problems sufficiently sorted out that they’re no longer a problem, so I’m going to pick up a very minor piece of work and make sure I can do it and get it deployed to hotfix so people can review it. If that all goes smoothly, it means I should be good to switch completely to the new way of working and retire the MacBook Pro I’ve been working on since 2023. I’d rather carry on with that as it’s not locked down at all, or only very minimally, whereas I don’t even have an sudoer account on the new one - something which impeded my progress today on the SSH malarkey. But times have changed and the “cyber” people rule the roost now; and they have ordained that the department’s “security posture” needs “hardening” so we’re all stuck with it

It’s got very windy again; the wind seems to be getting stronger every night at the moment
