First post here, I’ve had an interesting few hours.

I didn’t get paid by my umbrella company today, so I tried going on their website to get the phone number and found the website no longer existed. I typed the name of the company “Integra resourcing” into Google and came across a news article saying they had been added to a list of umbrella companies but under the name greenwich contracts limited.

So it appears that I’ve unknowingly been in a tax avoidance scheme for 3 years.

I obviously have a thousand questions. But fortunately found this forum.

I was put into this “scheme” by umbrella contacts Ltd who were recommended by my agency Rullion.

So first thing I will speak to rullion asap to get me on a legitimate umbrella.

After that I assume I’m going to owe the tax man a boat load of money, I’m pretty sure I’ll not be able to afford it, so what happens to me then?

thanks for any advice you may be able to give me.
Rullion are a very well established recruitment agency so this really surprises me.
I would definitely get in contact with a high authority at Rullion to understand what compliance they undertook to recommend particular umbrella companies.
Unless this was not an official recommendation and may have been a rogue agent - which also needs calling out with Rullion.

And if it is a scheme, a chunk of that 25% will be lining the pockets of the scheme provider in fees, instead of paying tax and NICs.

I ran a few numbers through this tax calculator, and below are approximate deductions. This is based on gross pay received by the contractor, after the deduction of any accountancy fees and Employers NI.
    https://www.uktaxcalculators.co.uk

    Gross P.A......Gross P.M.....Net P.M......%Deducted
    50k...............4166...........3138.............25%
    100k.............8333...........5526.............34%
    150k............12500..........7494.............40%

What is your gross wage? I don't want to be rude as you are in a terrible situation but basic tax is 20% up to 50k and 40% on 50k to 150K so if you've been earning considerably more than 50k the losing 25% of your wage is way off normal. And that's just the income tax. Absolutely everyone on over 50k will tell you that it's not normal.

I’m afraid that you ought to have been receiving about 56% of your day rate, so getting 75% is in well dodgy territory.

Hi thanks for all the feedback so far.

    few questions;

should I move umbrella company and then wait for HMRC to contact me? I assume they will now be going through the payroll of Integra so will probably get to me at some point? Would it be favourable for a deal with HMRC for me to contact them first?

can these companies still continue to operate despite being named on the HMRC scheme list?

I have read lots about a loan scheme but maybe that was before 2019? I have only been in this “scheme” since late 2019, so am I going to be responsible for this interest on the loan repaying thing? I’ve been over my contract with Integra and can’t see anything about a loan or an advance on my wages.

additionally, if HMRC can let these companies go unnoticed and operate for this long, how the bloody hell am I suppose to know they are dodgy? I always thought it was normal as I was losing about 25% of my wage anyway.

I do feel like a complete idiot and some sort of a victim although after reading the stories on this forum it seems I can’t look at myself as a victim and there’s a lot of people who have fell for the same thing.

    thanks again.

    .
Abvsolustely this. Why on earth would you go back to the same company for a recommendation that has dropped you in this mess. Hell I'd be going after Rullion for damages as they are the one that put you on to this umbrella let alone ask them again!!

Take a look at this section of the forum, particularly the stickies:
Umbrella Companies - Contractor UK Bulletin Board

Also, you'll need to ask Rullion what happened to your most recent (missing) payment. Did they transfer that money to Integra? Will they send that money to your new umbrella?

Anyway, sorry to hear that you're in this situation, and good luck with resolving it.

If you do this, you'll quickly get an idea of how much you have been underpaying tax and NICs. Just see how much your monthly take-home drops.

I can't help but can get some threads where either of those two are mentioned that might help.

This poster mentions Integra as far back as 2019
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...-to-begin.html

This thread from 2018 has Integra on a list of offshored entities
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...charge-75.html

Another poster with their collar felt over Integra in 2018
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...rc-letter.html

    Integra again in 2020
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...ry-letter.html

    Integra again in 2018
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...the-lc-31.html

Integra Management so same company? Just a guess
    https://forums.contractoruk.com/hmrc...-umbrella.html

Found two very recent pages explaining HMRC added them on the 29th Sept so all the above could be a completely different company/set up so hope I haven't given you a ton of false information.

The Greenwhich/Integra pairing has been called out in this news article from today
    https://www2.staffingindustry.com/en...romoters-63155

And the updated HMRC page with them added is here
    https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-contracts-ltd

Hope you can find something of use in there.
