    He sounds off to me but mainly because I expect his normal voice!

    I think also that may be the regional accent he is doing - so much American TV is Californian. Can't remember, but isn't it set in the mid-west or the south or somewhere a bit 'yokel'?

    When Laurie auditioned for House they apparently thought he was American. For a non-American to play American on an American show broadcast to American audiences, it probably has to be good.
