Honestly, I can't believe how long BADR has lasted. It's the walking dead of tax reliefs .

But, as a Treasury official, you probably don't ditch the name Entrepreneur's Relief and replace it with an acronym that starts with "BAD" unless you have a long-term plan...

BADR might take a hit, from what I'm hearing from such highly rated places such as TikTok, GB News and at the docks. I'm glad I managed to retire from contracting (though I miss it dearly) and claim the full tax relief while it was available.

In terms of property, I've heard NI on rental income is highly likely (but we're not working people, so how can we pay NI? ). And also the possibility that the 20% tax credit being abolished on BTL mortgages/financing. Ironically this will just lead to even more rent rises, due to further reduced supply and increasing costs for landlords.

The loss of empire had many factors.
Well it was them time for the end of Empires, note Germany, France, Spain and even Belgium all started to divest themselves of Empires.
Empires caused many wars and there was a public disgust with the loss & cruelty fuelled by better communication & reporting. Also better invented propaganda.
We had to repay those in the commonwealth that came out to fight alongside us in WWI & II.
Many colonies seeing the opportunity started rebelling and the optics on TV & photographs in teh newspapers were not as easily cntrolled.
The French & Russian revolution showed it was possible to overturn the King.
War Poets exposed the lies about b;ind loyalty to country.

Loss of a backbone and world leading.
Instead of celebrating the now defunct Empire we started beating ourselves up about it, compared to the Romans. Greeks, Genghis Khan etc. we were fairly benevolent yet we took the blame for every ill in the world. If you wanted a truly bad Empire put the Belgians in charge followed by the Germans.

Instead of making UK PLC great and then helping the less fortunate we wanted to play fair or were too stupid by half.

We gave away our manufacturing and innovation.

We didn't Police our population (both size & law abiding).

I am forced to work through an umbrella company by most of my employers, which usually charge about 100 a month to invoice the employer and pay me via PAYE. I already pay a tax rate of 55.8% (40% tax rate + 2% employee NI + 13.8% employer NI) to 60.8% (45% rate), now this horrific government propose that I'm not 'a working person', and that i have 'broad shoulders' and that it should be 57.8 - 62.8% tax rate.

I can't really be bothered any more - Once a govt starts taking more than half your wage, there isn't a ton of incentive to take a stressful contract...

All these people who seem to think Employers NI is a tax on them and can't separate the fee the engager pays from the salary the employer pays

Its a subject we all perhaps need to learn more about. There are zero benefits to living here and the negatives get bigger everyday, and will no doubt become huge on Wednesday.

Don't the double taxation rules mean you are only taxed on your income in the country you were resident in?

Also would it be so bad to sever ties completely? Not much point being tied to a corpse is there? It will only drag you down.

You will retain your entitlement to state pension. Though I know this is more complicated in that some countries it will continue to increase (triple lock increases) as it does here, in others it is frozen at time you left. Thailand is frozen for example, and America it continues to increase.

Only 6% of Adult males died in WWI. Plenty came back many shell-shocked but fertile.

Far fewer died in WWII despite the blitz - in my case both of my Grandfathers that were significant contributors to the war effort were alive when I was born.

One grandfather even managed to produce offspring before the war. I suspect being shipped out to war increased marriages and impregnations.
