You hear people say they started getting ads after speaking about a product, in person, and never searching online. They claim Siri is listening but I tend to lean in the direction it's selective bias... statistically this is bound to happen every now and then and you only notice when it does.

I wouldn't be surprised if their cross-site cookies have snared you, can we test it with deliberate ad-terms?

Are the emails definitely from facebook, rather than ad.facebook.xyz.com - loads of those doing the rounds and very easy to get caught out.

I don't believe Facebook is sending you emails if you don't have a Facebook account. Even they are not that blatant.

However, Facebook does use tracking cookies and all manner of things to monitor pretty much everyone on the planet. If they don't have a direct connection to you, they'll have an indirect one from people you know who do use Facebook products. Don't forget they own WhatsApp and Instagram too, plus others I'm sure.
