And it says nothing about his character. You've proven over and over in black and white you are a cockwomble. You can't make a simple decision on anything. Every time you come on it's to ask a simple question that most people in life deal with themselves, particularly the contracting side of it. You say you've been in contracting a long time but some of your questions are just moronic. They show a total like of ability to look at a situation and come to a sensible answer on your own which is exactly why he's calling you a cockwomble.
And I am not sure why you are wow'ing about being called a cockwomble. You've got off seriously lightly there.
Seriously mate, ive been in this game a LONG time.....

I wouldn't take the perm job with the intention you're looking at it from but I would take it if I were thinking of winding down after 20+ years and wanted an easy life.

If I was offered a contract that had an issue with me working a one month notice period, I'd not want that contract as they clearly haven't planned/managed their situation well enough, and are at a crisis. But if they are at a crisis, I'd be asking them for 2x the going rate to get them out of it, and would then negotiate with current people to leave sooner.
Everything is negotiable, if you have the right attitude.
If you're an arrogant ignoramus, then you might find some things aren't negotiable.

Given a good 95% of the agent calls I get are related to the field I am in and what I do I assume its the same for everyone

Forget the pay, benefits, notice period etc, what about the risk of HMRC coming knocking on your door?
