"The European Commission has rejected claims that the EES is broadly responsible for long queues at airports."

"A new digital border management system – the Entry/Exit System – is now in force to make travelling to Europe easier and more efficient. It will enhance the security of the EU’s borders, which will also benefit our partners, including the UK."

You might be ok now the outbound Xmas/New Year rush is over. From what I hear it's only a TSS if lots of full planes arrive around the same time.

"According to the Portugal Post, 80 extra police officers were drafted in at Lisbon for a 15-day shift which has brought down the average wait to 60 minutes instead of the 3 to 6 hour wait passengers were suffering before, and now the airport has temporarily suspended the EES machine checks until after the Christmas period."

With my knackered knees, I don't think I'll be travelling to any Schengen country any time soon!

It's the "brits abroad" places that will suffer the most. I think I read that 30% through Malaga are brits, and I know with Lanzarote it's over 50%.

When they conceived the system, in the early 2000s, non-EU travellers in Schengen were a minority. We've thrown a spanner in the works.

Cyprus, and non-EU destinations like Turkey and Egypt might get a boost.

    started a topic EES delays

    EES delays

Seeing reports of 2-3 hour queues to get through immigration in the Canaries. Being a winter sun destination, it's high season at the moment.

EES only went live in October so summer destinations haven't been "stress tested" yet. Next July/August at the likes of Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro, Greek islands might be a wee bit challenging.

Working...
