If intent on going straight from contract A to contract B I would give the client the extra notice, it's good for your future relationship with them. Highly unlikely they ask you to finish earlier, but it's not impossible. I used to do this when i was younger, sign a 6-9 monther and try and work every single day - mentally calculating the cost in my head of any time off i had (“oh tulip that week off will cost £3k before i have even started” etc etc).
