In itself, it doesn't necessarily mean much if you have particular expertise that you are contracted to provide and this interview relies on it.
On the other hand, from what you've written, I would strongly suggest you take a long hard look at this relationship, possibly with independent...

It depends on the place of supply rules (feel free to read them), but B2B supplies will generally be outside of the scope of UK VAT (i.e., UK VAT does not apply) and this is not a pedantic difference. If you want, you can mention the customer's reverse charge obligation on your invoices (e.g., "reverse...

Yup, or you could've shorted scootie who was no doubt heavily short RAM prices from around the start of September

That is probably non-ECC memory(?) It is a reasonable price for non-ECC memory, if you trust Amazon marketplace (I don't, personally). Server memory is significantly more expensive, though, and not as common from retailers.

Your spec is listed on My Memory for £1800 (inc VAT) with stock due imminently
Not sure I would buy from them anyway, though - heard mixed things.

Scan seem to have some stock (unless you called them and they don't)?

To the extent that all RAM is bloody expensive now, ECC RAM is especially not cheap, of course. But if Scan don't have the stock, you are really going...Last edited by jamesbrown; 28 January 2026, 09:58.

They apparently issued an SDS, so they still are still - notionally - accepting the responsibilities of Ch 10. In other words, based on the info above, there is no attempt to shift between Ch 10 and Ch 8, merely to shift the responsibilities within Ch 10. Regardless, these shenanigans are always about...

They are either deeply confused or, more likely, obfuscating the definition of a fully contracted out service (it is not) with the elements of what makes a contract outside IR35. The latter derives from employment (mostly) and tax case law, which is common to Ch 8 and Ch 10 and entirely irrelevant to...

Everyone knows they don't have it.
You know they don't. They know they don't. They know that you know they don't. Scams are aimed at people that don't know or who can't be bothered to get advice from people that do know like, say, us. It's also amusing that someone can be happy with the set-up. What's...

This is really all you need to know - HMRC never approves anything. It's a sham.
Regardless of the comical attempt to mask this as a supply of services, it is clearly a labour supply. To be a contracted out service, the consultancy would need to be fully responsible for the delivery of...

I can only speak to how I have done this personally. Spend some time thinking about what you both enjoy and is going to be in-demand for the foreseeable future. Then attend conferences and workshops, build expertise (e.g., if you are a dev, perhaps contribute to open source projects), specialise a bit,...

As I keep reminding my fellow contractors, this is either a blessing or a curse, depending on your attitude and skillset (which is a choice), i.e., what you want to do about it. The same applies to technological advances/revolutions, such as AI. Personally, I choose not to work for UK clients post Ch....
