I pointed out that the vinyl was a bit torn at one side, and though I'd tried to glue it back down, it would very likely still be troublesome. He said in that case they couldn't do it (what a surprise) but TBH I'd always thought that was a possibility or even a likelihood, and I was just happy to have the machine connected and functional!
So I said I'd deal with it; I've already got some things on the way for sliding appliances into tight spaces on, but TBH I think I can probably get away with just putting tape down over the few troublesome inches, then lubricating the feet with washing up liquid (as both the last lot and this lot suggested). So now I'm wondering whether to try with parcel tape, which I have right here, or go down and see if the gaffer tape is in the boot of the car, or pop round to the hardware shop and get some more. They did advise me not to run the machine until it's in situ, which makes sense as I could do without it wandering around the room
Ok, I have a plan!
Gaffer tape over the dodgy vinyl - it'll be hidden once the machine's in place, so who cares what it looks like
Use the air wedges I got off Amazon to raise each side of the machine in turn and lubricate the feet with washing up liquid
Get the machine into the niche up to just before the back foot would reach the tape - I can check this with the endoscope camera
Raise that side again - just has to be a couple of millimetres, and most of the machine will still be out of the niche at that point
Slide it back another inch or two so it's over the tape and won't bunch it up
Remove the wedge, and slide it the rest of the way!
Wonder if it'll work? If it seems to not be working, I can wait until the slider things are delivered, but I'm quite tired of this whole business now so sooner would be better
In fact, maybe run the tape all the way out across the kitchen floor, so I can get the foot on it right from the start? Then I can lift the front feet up and trim it back once it's in. That would also let me see if it's bunching up the tape rather than sliding over it, before it's unreachable. Anyway, I'm supposed to be in a meeting soon, but I might experiment at lunchtime
Rather hilarious that the approved Miele installer has never seen the items being installed. I hope you get opportunity to feed back to customer services.

Yes, I'm glad I'd prepared for it! I was thinking last night once I'd run all the hoses through, I could just install it myself and be done with it, if it wasn't for the bit in the warranty about making modifications. At least he had me there to tell him how to do his job
Word has come that the appliance slider things are on their way, though without any clear indication of when they'll arrive. On reflection, I've decided that rather than mucking around with tape, it'll be less hassle to wait for them to turn up. The machine's been in the way for a week now so another day or two doesn't matter, really
