Morning denizens

Sunny start again though there's some thin haze, giving a gauzy effect and moderating the dazzling rays a bit. Already 7°C and aiming for 17° today! The barometers are down to 1009/1018mB

Small catastrophe this morning when the cafetière beaker broke! It was only dropped a couple of inches but, looking at the breaks, it was fatigued and ready to go at the slightest provocation

The good news is that the last time this happened, I bought two spares, one as an immediate replacement (which is the one that broke today) and one for when this inevitably happened. But I've moved since then, and what were the chances that I'd have put the spare somewhere sensible at a time of everything being rather chaotic, and that I could remember where that place was? Pretty good, it turned out, as it was in the first drawer I checked! So the morning coffee has been subject to only a minor delay

^^^ The NF trauma reminds me of a Ping! I heard one evening, only to find the next day that the Pyrex(tm) jug had broken in half in the cupboard. Fortunately I had a spare, just in case, like. .

Meanwhile on the 6th of January 2020, the discussion of The Co-op being concluded, it transpired that NF was reducing some already reduced M&S magic gravy since he apparently prefers it rather thicker, yorkshire puds were supplied by Iceland (Three Nil), BR14 popped in, and LM was shocked that frozen puds were purchased, allegedly due to only buying 1 pint of milk per year (a contrast to my own consumption of gallons thereof, none of which are used to make yorkshire puds).

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the sunshine & bracing wind. Pollen count seems higher.

Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: Y&Y waffling on about someone who started a toyshop.

Welsh Water have turned up & are rodding and flushing said sewer as I type. They've been at it since noon or so. It's put a bit of a kibosh on the stuff I was going to do today but I've disconnected the power feed to the lights in next door's garage plus the feed to the two small lights that I control with a radio transmitter (installed back when getting Mother down to and back from the garage was a bit of a struggle. .).

The cabinet could do with a bit more of the 5 star wood treatment crap on the underneath. I've figured out where it will fit eventually once I've completed the work on it.

Time for a coffee.

I have repurposed the legs off a long departed tv to hold the ladders off the floor to save breaking my neck falling over the damn things. With the newly installed workbench said ladders would not go back whence they came, which was a bit of a design flaw all in all.

They've stuck the camera thing down the sewer, I can't tell if the afternoon's operation has been successful or not.

They've done what they can & have off buggered. They'll probably be back to number 42 & 44 tomorrow, one of which has the inspection chamber inside an extension, which sounds like a damn fool idea to me.

More potching in the garage.

Tea: beans on toast, boiled eggs, etc. Nice enough.

Losing things is a hobby for old farts like me. Think I mentioned before losing a huge pair of binoculars. Turned out it had fallen in the waste paper basket and got covered in junk so I didn't see it. Me little van to the garage later, hope they fix it, hate being stuck in the village.

Had a 9am meeting which was a rude start to the day. Actually a highly informative meeting but, still.

Now just juggling client #2 and the revelation that they don't understand a document issued by someone despite spending weeks turning up to meeting and making positive noises.

Van in garage so anuvver local walk. Incredible how many nice places to wander round here, some private but open, no fences or signs. Dropped in at little local cafe which has just reopened, they seem to be doing very well. Brief chat with the old lady I take to arty farty group.

Bad news, a neighbour told me the old chap next door has died. Nineties. Don't think I'll be as with it as he was when I'm that age.

The oven light is fixed!

I'd been unable to unscrew the glass cover, because it seems to have been factory tight and has also been baked in over the years. Various YouTube videos demonstrated possible approaches to this for similar models of oven, though they seemed to be ones where the grill element in the top didn't snake quite so closely around the light and I didn't want to risk breaking that.

Then I remembered that one of them had made a throwaway comment about there being a proper tool for the job which they didn't want to bother getting hold of. So I searched, and Bosch do offer such a thing - though it only comes with a new cover. But it was only twenty-odd quid for the set, so I ordered it on Tuesday night.

This arrived first thing this morning, and a quick check before work showed that it does indeed fit neatly over the cover, though I still couldn't unscrew it by hand. It also has a slot in the bottom into which some long thing (which one has to supply oneself) can be fitted to give the necessary leverage.

During a boring meeting which I didn't have anything to contribute with, I found just such a long thing which fitted (a drawer slider from an Ikea unit which was damaged when I moved), and gave it a go - and after a couple of attempts, the cover came loose and I could unscrew it the rest of the way!

So the bulb was then replaced with the one I'd already bought and as the old cover has a fair bit of baked-on grease, I fitted the new one; just finger-tight this time. So now it's nice and bright in there
