Tonight's repast has been the last of the chicken korma out of the freezer, with the usual rice and naan to accompany it; and very nice it was Comment

Whatever lurgy was afflicting me last night is still there, but it's keeping it very low key. I assume it's waiting for me to finish work tomorrow, so it has four days to really go to town on me Comment

Which are the wartime ones set on Crete with the mad major?Originally posted by NickFitz View PostApparently the BBC have a new adaptation of Waugh's Decline and Fall in the pipeline, so I'm getting the drop on them by re-reading it for the first time in God knows how many years. It's a wonderfully entertaining book; I suspect I'll end up re-reading everything else by Waugh when I've finished it

Ah. Robert 2527Pugh was in it, as I was reminded on Sunday when I watched "Vera".

And there's the ones set in Africa; Black Mischief and Scoop, the first supposedly inspired by the early days of Haile Selassie's rule in Ethiopia, and the second by Waugh's experiences as foreign correspondent for the Daily Mail covering the buildup to the Italian invasion of that country a few years later

And there's The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold, which is a near-autobiographical account of a novelist going on a sea cruise during which he gradually descends into insanity.

They sound like quite heavy going when described like that, but they're all really funny Comment

"Mostly cloudy" today, I am informed. From what little light is apparent in the sky, this is certainly the case now Comment
