In Chindit, they established a kind of base with an airstrip to disrupt the Japanese lines of communication north, but were eventually overrun and had to retreat with heavy casualties. Then they were left by a lake for ages with minimal supplies; and now they’ve been ordered to head north and capture a town that’s a Japanese stronghold! Nobody seems at all happy about this
Goodnight all

Morning.
Wednesday.
Wet.
Grey.
Dark.
Dank.
Dreary.
15.7 deg in here, 14.4 in the kitchen, 13 in the leanto, 9 out the back.
995.5 mBar, 29.4 in Hg, 746.7 Torr, 14.44 psi, (down from 997 last night), 66% RH (Lidl electric).
Meanwhile on the 7th of April 2020, between 08:00 and 10:09, in popped covbob, churchill, eek, LM, WTFH, and me.
Entertainment: Jack Hargreaves Old Country: what did the Romans ever do for us? er, apparently they invented fly fishing. The village of Todber. The limestone ridge. Quarrying the edge of fields. How things changed with the advent of railways and roads bringing in alternatives to the limestone.
Walk (unabbreviated, towpath) walked in the cold grey gloom. That wind was decidedly chilly. Zero conversations. Blue skies spotted further southwest.
Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: the Cambridge 5 thing. dashcam bollox.
Due to curiosity about the funny colour of the Llantwit brook as it enters the river, trip taken up to the res to find out where the orange was coming from: turned out that the res is 3/4 empty and is bright orange, though quite where all the orange has come from is a mystery to me since all the streams going in seem clear. There's a patch of orange on one of the banks. Baffled.
Alaska homestead rescue: another Georgia swamp. The significant other was in the national guard & off on a sniper training course.
. So the Raneys chopped down trees & built a barn, and a place to slaughter the animals, plus a chicken coop, pig farrowing pens, and somewhere for the goats to live. All built on clay so drainage was just about zero. Built a raised bed for gardening too since nothing other than trees seems to like growing in what passes for soil.
Tea: Tesco battered haddock with a couple of Morrisons fish fingers. Nice enough. Entertainment: PM.
Jack Hargreaves Out of Town. Kidney onion again. Fishing for pike. Rivers raising on clay. The Stour. Weed growth. Proper flooding on a flood plain illustrating why people didn't build houses on them back in the day.
.
Bab5 S5 E9 "In the kingdom of the blind". More teep dodgy dealings.
Alaska Homestead Rescue: Hawaii. Less mud & clay, more volcanoes. Swings & roundabouts innit. Well that was fun. 80 acres of macadamia nut farm with feral hogs and not much water. Single mother with 4 kids from 7 to 13. And they all worked hard. Felled two more invasive Albizia trees which was a bit of a struggle since they're so large.Last edited by DoctorStrangelove; 21 October 2026, 22:34.When the fun stops, STOP.Comment

Morning denizens
It’s a fairly sunny start, though this won’t last and rain is expected for much of the day, though maybe only from time to time. Currently 9°C, it won’t get any higher than 11°; the barometers have dropped to 986/994mB

A few heavy showers overnight which continued at the start of the walk. Appropriate clothing was worn, so I cam back dry.
Sky looks like it's clearing slightly.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

The council have blocked me from reporting the missed food waste collection as the crew reported that my bin had not been put out. This is a lie. I have raised a formal complaint.Comment

Lunch: leftover pork cutlet in a wholemeal bap with apple sauce
Today has turned out to be a day of several meetings, with another one due soon

All bed linen has been washed and is draped about on airers.
I don't like the detergent I bought recently. It has a horrible scent that's giving me a headache. I should have just bought more of the stuff I've already got but "fancied a change".
I might now make the bed, it's had a long enough airing.Comment
