Morning all
Overcast and a bit damp on the walk, but the heavens didn't open until I was in the door 5 minutes, so that's good.
Cut the grass yesterday evening - more about checking the mower would still start than anything else. Most of what I cut was the tops of weeds.

Discovered that I'd forgotten about the label on the Howard Marks "Two Dragons" book. It's taken ages to get that damn label off. Eventually tried some hand sanitiser & that helped a lot.

Walk (much abbreviated due to complaining knees after I came downstairs frontwards earlier) walked. Didn't get as far as the towpath since a recently sold house was having "gardening" done with chainsaws & the like, so I turned back: about 2 miles in total at a guess.

It’s a gloomy grey start, damp after overnight rain, though no more of that is predicted for now; windy too, though not quite as much as it seemed to be late last night. It’s 17°C which “feels like” 12°, and today’s high is only 19°. The barometers continue downwards to 998/1005mB

A lovely sunny afternoon.

I have come to the conclusion that the 6 year old PC needs more RAM. I suspect the max it can handle is 16GB (currently has 8GB on a single stick) so I've ordered another 8GB and will see if that kills or cures. I personally don't like installing unmatched pairs but I'm not shelling out for 2 sticks at today's prices.

Damp following the brief, but very intense, shower that occurred about 08:50. Cloudy but bright. A gentle breeze wafts. Currently 20 degrees ('feels like' 24) and that's the high for the day. There may be more showers later. Barometer down to 1012 mBar.

Very tired this morning. It was very windy overnight and things rattling kept waking me up. I was also having the too hot / too cold battle with the duvet (still the 3 tog summer one).

Anyway, some "billing" for a couple of hours while I await the RAM delivery.

Later I'm meeting one of my bonkers points running friends for dinner who is over from Germany for a Bon Jovi concert. I remember seeing them live in the 1990's

The last live gig I went to (other than occasionally watching my brother's band) was Roger Waters The Wall at the O2 in 2011. Took the parentals and we had really good seats. I actually bought tickets for two different performances and sold the spares once family who claimed to be desperate to go appeared less desperate to pay for them. Sold at face value because I'm not a scalper.

I went across town, via the old place, where the chestnut trees are bearing fruit but not yet changing colour. Coming from this direction meant I was able to pop into M&S for a few bits, including some thick woolly socks. I tended to wear these quite often in winter at the old place because it was cold, but now I have central heating I don’t use them as often; I think I have a couple of pairs from two or three years ago that I’ve never worn. But I’m a sucker for buying them anyway when they get a new pattern in

Onwards to Big Sainsbury’s, the main reason being Viz week. But it wasn’t there! The last few copies of the previous issue were still on the shelf, so maybe the delivery van got hijacked or something

Anyway, they seem to have finished the refurbishment and rearrangement now, so the arduous process of adjusting to the new layout begins. Many things are still in roughly the same physical area of the store and in the same order relative to neighbouring categories, but everything around where one enters has been displaced laterally, so even things that are in exactly the same spot often feel as if they’ve moved. Everything in my mental model is relative to the meat, which used to be straight ahead through the veg but is now much further to the left

The major issue, assuming this is the final layout, is that the booze has moved nearer the centre, close to the new wide aisle for lunchtime meal deals. Maybe the poor sods who work on the adjacent business park need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day? But this seriously disrupts my mental flow from baked goods, via tea and coffee if needed, to beer and wine, and onwards to frozen foods (if needed) at the far wall, whence I’d double back to approach cleaning materials from the checkout end. Now, the cleaning materials come between tea/coffee and frozen, with a long walk back to alcohol after that

I daresay I’ll cope, but it’s quite annoying to have to start making adjustments after carefully refining my route for the last quarter of a century

Anyway, I think I got everything I needed, apart from Viz of course. I’ll have to go there again next week for that, but I suppose I need the practice

Lunch, when I got around to it in the middle of the afternoon, was a cold roast chicken leg. And tea has been a rack of ribs (Sainsbury’s “firecracker”, i.e. mildly hot) and chips
