Sausage roll (from the batch baked on Monday) for lunch

I'm putting various bits from the kitchen through the dishwasher for a proper clean; draining rack and so on. I was trying to do them on the hottest cycle, as that's also the quickest other than things like the one for glassware and the rinse only one, but it kept stopping after filling up. At least it was doing it before it got to the point of releasing the capsule. Anyway, after four failed attempts, I tried it on the eco cycle, which is cooler but takes longer, and it's fine! I suspect it gets worried that it may be overheating and stops for that reason; it's built in under the counter so it doesn't get much airflow round it, and it's very warm in there today. Anyway, it's now an hour in and chugging along nicely

I've also managed to make a start on sorting out the cupboards. There's a load of baking stuff like almonds and sultanas and the like which were originally brought here from the old flat and were already on the aged side then - I haven't got around to doing much baking since I moved. So I reckon it's best to get rid of that lot as it won't give satisfactory results if and when I get around to using it

Herbs and spices! Long past time they were sorted out

A visual comparison of a pot of cayenne pepper purchased recently with the one that's been here for ages confirms that it's supposed to be red, not yellowy-brown, so the old stuff can go. Similar results for olfactory testing of various herbs: this undated pot with a less faded label smells the same as this one with a BBE date in 2010, so it may be of more recent origin but the contents are of equally limited culinary usefulness

Quite a few duplicates too, though they tend to be more recent purchases. In particular, I clearly kept forgetting that I'd already bought more of Sainsbury's steak seasoning. I suppose I'll just have to eat lots of steaks

New washer-dryer should be here a week on Friday! A fancy (and rather expensive) Miele, no less

Make sure you get it delivered to exactly where you want it. They aren't light.

Tea has been home-made adana kebabs and fries

Still very warm. I just realised I made the mistake of leaving the window open and blind up in the bedroom, so it'll be baking in there

Removal of the old one and installation of the new have been included in the order, so it should be fine

Tonight's viewing was part one of Murder Case - The Vanishing Cyclist on iPlayer

And I'm not too far from the end of Project Hail Mary

After sunset, a decent breeze sprang up from the west which has brought the bedroom temperature down a few degrees. It's eased off a little now, but it's helping

                Goodnight all

                  Morning denizens

There's a fairly low layer of grey cloud out there to start the day, presaging the slightly less hot (though not actually cool) day we've ben promised. It's already 19°C, but won't get any worse than 25°, so that's nice. The barometers are up a bit to 1005/1013mB

                    Morning all
                    CBS, etc, quite humid out.
Great thing about working from home is the lack of requirement for long trousers and socks.

                      Morning.

Thursday. (checks clock: yes it's saying "Th").

                      Wet. Raining.

                      Grey.

                      Dark.

                      Dank.

                      Sunless.

Cool in here at 22.6 deg, 23 in the kitchen, 22 in the leanto.

1009.5 mBar, 29.81 in Hg, 757.2 Torr, 14.64 psi, (up from 1008 last night), 71% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 7th of February 2020 Brillo popped in, along with BR14, and there was discussion of the Oz customs thing, people carrying credit cards without names on, I watched "STIV: the voyage home" and yet more of "ST: first contact" whereas NF watched the popular spinoff known as "Galaxy Quest". .

In other news, there's sommat wrong with the back door. I'll have a potch with it later.

Once the rain has stopped for a bit.
