lunch was warm pastrami on soda bread, with sliced wally and English mustard.

And then it was off for the eye test where it was determined that my reading glasses are still OK but, to my surprise, my distance glasses prescription has got a bit weaker, i.e. my vision has improved very slightly!

Apparently this is rather uncommon but not extremely so, human bodies being as unpredictable as they are. And it explains why I'd felt there was something slightly off when looking at the telly but not feeling it was blurred at all - once she said this, I realised that it has indeed been looking the way things look with too strong a lens

So I've shelled out £140 for a new pair, which will be ready as soon as they've been made

During a rather dull meeting this afternoon, I wasn't fully focussed on whatever it was about.

            Evening all

Sunny but cloudy with grey bits. Started of dull but brightened up as the day progressed. Currently 19 degrees and the high was 20. Showers possible overnight. Barometer up to 1019 mBar.

            Sunrise 04:53; Sunset 21:05 BST

Busy day at the coal face. Updating a concept of operations document for the most part.

HWMBO's prescription was picked up. Waitrose visited to collect a grocery order.

HWMBO is heading back from Amsterdam and will be cluttering up the place, making me proper dinners for about 10 days before he heads off to Bucharest. I need to book some flights to join him out there.

In trying to complete Palestine, I noticed I only had 5 of the 6 cities but couldn't find the 6th. Zoomed in and out but couldn't see it. So I emailed tech support and apparently it's East Jerusalem. They also said there's a new city directory to help you find all the cities in a given country as a list or map: https://tripgeo.com/cities/ps

Tea has been chicken madras with rice and naan

This was accompanied by the final episode of the aircraft carrier thing, in which an F-35 decided it didn't feel like flying today and simply dropped off the bow and went for a swim to the bottom of the Med instead

The pilot had ejected safely though

In Eagle Days, it turns out Operation Sealion won't be happening in 1940 after all. Meanwhile, the Luftwaffe has lost many of its experienced fliers and their hastily-trained replacements aren't really up to scratch

                    Morning denizens

Windy day out after some overnight rain, and cloudy with it, though there's momentary brighter spells as a thinner bit gets blown past the sun. It's relatively mild though, being 14°C (albeit "feels like" 9°) with an expected high of 21°. The barometers are up a little at 1003/1011mB

Some creature of the night appears to have leafleted everybody's cars, or all those that were in situ at whatever time they did it. Quite annoyed that I'll have to go all the way down there just to remove a flyer for a scaffolding firm from under the wiper (that's what it was last time)

                      Morning.

Thursday (checks clock to make sure).

Dire night's sleep: after the usual 2 a.m. ritual, was afflicted with much sneezing & coughing & sleep returned not, leading to a 3 hour reading of one of the current books. Ho hum.

                      Grey.

                      Damp.

                      Sunless.

                      Misty.

Chilly in here at 17.8 deg, 19 deg in the kitchen, 17 deg in the leanto.

1013.5 mBar, 29.928 in Hg, 760.18 Torr, 14.6995 psi, (untapped), 70% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 19th of January 2020 LM detailed the complexities of her route home from Heathrow, changes, walking through to get to the best end for the exit etc. all quite beyond me, NF watched the Australian customs thing busting a coke smuggler (it's odd they never do Pepsi smugglers), and I watched a Doctor Who ep which I found adequate (i.e. positively Shakespearean compared with the current dross), followed by the Oak Island nutjobbery dropping enormous cans & finding feck all but a small piece of lead & some crockery.

No walk today: weather too miserable and I feel a bit odd.

Lunch: brunch (half an hour early).

Entertainment: Toast: the demise of Woolworths.

Due to boredom, the house has been roughly vacced. Feeling a bit better now.

Even moved stuff in the front room office cum junk room: managed to extract my late father's music centre to see if it still worked: well it does: currently playing "Pulse" via a portable CD player since the built in one no longer works. Sounds reasonable enough with the "T Bass" turned off & the vents in the speakers blocked to turn them into infinite baffle. Followed by "Assault & Battery" by Hawkwind, "Master of the Universe" by Hawkwind. "Brainstorm" off "Do Re Me", by you guessed it, Hawkwind. Sounds wonderfully muddy on this.

Tea: beans on toast with scrambled egg. Nice enough.

                      Entertainment: PM.

NCIS S20 E22 (the Russian cyber attack one). S21 E1. S21 E2 (the goodbye to Ducky (David McCallum) one.

Trucking Hell S9 E3. The rave from the grave is Crouch from 2022: burning sugar lorry.

Secret Life of Bees on 5+1. Part 2 of 2. Not very inneresting really. Other than bees have smelly feet. And queen bumble bees don't drown when they're hibernating.
