Sausages in finger rolls for lunch

The annual statement for the service charge has arrived, and there's a surplus! So that's £64-odd off my next bill

Tea has been ribeye steak with chips, beans, and fried onions. This was not just any steak: it was an M&S wagyu steak. Very nice too

This was accompanied by the second episode of the collision investigation thing on 5

        Lightning!

Not very much though. The best of it seems to have fizzled out to the west so we've just got a couple of flashes and some rain so far

Lightning here too for about 20 minutes, followed by about 30 seconds of rain. Good job I got the grass raked and cut earlier.
I might have to write in to POV about tonight’s Ambulance is the patient breathing, because neither of us won the game.

Tonight I finished Story of a Murder in which Ethel Le Neve found herself rather adrift in the world after Crippen's execution, particularly when a legal ruling determined that he couldn't inherit his wife's possessions (which included valuable jewellery and furs), which he had in turn left to her. She went back to Canada for a bit but had a nervous breakdown, then returned to England and got worse. But in the end she got her act together and went back to work, then married some bloke and raised two children. They didn't have any idea about her involvement in the notorious case until some writer came asking questions a few years after her death in 1967

Tomorrow, I have a phone appointment for the annual medication review, and annoyingly it's some time between 7am and 9am. So I'd best get to sleep

            Goodnight all

              Morning all

Sunny start to the day. Currently 6 degrees with a high of 14 expected. Slight chance of a shower this afternoon. Barometer remains at 1017 mBar.

              Sunrise 05:31; Sunset 20:59 BST

Up before the sun to fly down to London for a workshop. Luckily the office is adjacent to the airport with a staff shuttle bus running regularly enough.

Yesterday was HWMBO's birthday. He cooked a fantastic, albeit huge, meal for us and his kids. However, the main was served at 10.30 pm and I needed to get an early night. A good excuse to not help clear up! There was pudding and cheese yet to go when I gave up and went to bed. The cheese did get put away and will be had this evening. Hopefully someone saved me some of the Alfonso mango trifle.

                Morning denizens

Sunny start, but the decline is setting in: currently 12°C with an expected high of only 21° rather than yesterday's 24°, and it seems to be becoming cloudy rather than hazy up in the heavens. The barometers are down a touch at 1005/1013mB

I've been waiting since 7am for the call from the GP surgery, but they haven't yet. I can't even have a shower until they do. And they'll just say "Oh, you need to come in for some blood tests" like they do every year; it would have made more sense to just arrange that straight away. Then again, the person who answered the phone when I booked seemed surprised by the whole concept of a medication review and I virtually had to guide them through the process of arranging anything at all, so getting this far is a good start

While waiting, I popped a new battery into the freezer thermometer which had stopped working the other day. This is a fiddly process as it needs to be opened up with a tiny screwdriver rather than having a simple compartment but in a remarkable feat of preparedness, I had my tiny screwdrivers and spare batteries to hand

Greetings from London Heathrow where it's a lovely sunny morning, and a balmy 16 degrees.

Meeting starts at 9am, still taxiing around the airport.

After waiting around, I went and put some toast on. That did the trick: the phone rang almost immediately, so I had to turn the toast off again

As expected, it was just "You need to come in" and an appointment was arranged. It's three weeks away but they're probably busy at this time of year with students panicking over the approaching exam period, being the university health centre
