Tonight's major motion picture premiere was Civil War (2024) in which some photojournalists try to make it to Washington in time for the fall of the government to rebel forces (though I assume they stop being rebels if they win and just become the government in their turn). It's not bad, but not that good either; it feels like there are several events but not much of a story tying them together. It's Free With Prime at the moment, so at least it didn't cost me anything. 2.4 to 2.6 out of 5 I reckon

This was followed by a rewatch of Transcendence (2014) which is a load of super-AI-takes-over malarkey. One notable feature of this is that during an AI conference at which our protagonists are speaking at the start, there's a very brief shot of that ****** Musk in the audience pretending to listen with intelligence and insight, which must have been an unprecedented challenge for the special effects makeup team given that he's just a dumb twat whose only talent is for stealing credit from others. Anyway, it's not bad, though TBH I realised a bit of a way in that I'd actually intended to watch Limitless and got the titles mixed up. But I was far enough in that I figured I'd let it play out

The rain seems to be persisting for longer than was forecast

Evening all, Auckland calling, local time 1805

Sunny with lumps of fluff. Currently 24 degrees and the high was 26. Barometer at 1014 mBar.

      Sunrise 06:44; Sunset 20:26

Here for a mere 23h before our next flight tomorrow afternoon. Once again, the Air New Zealand flight between Sydney and Auckland was great with a nice meal and lovely crew.

        Morning.

        Saturday.

This morning I slept late, waking after 09:15 which makes a pleasant change from 05:45.

        Grey.

        Dry.

Chilly in here at 11.1 deg, 10.5 deg in the kitchen, 7 deg in the leanto.

1015.3 mBar, 29.98 in Hg, 761.54 Torr, 14.725 psi, (unchanged), 59% RH (Lidl electric).

Meanwhile on the 26th of December 2019 scruff popped in for a quick visit and I managed to post the same crap post three times by some curious feature of the version of this board in replay to a question about TPD rep from covbob, while NF found the weather to be grey, and BR14 was BR14.

        Lunch: brunch.

Entertainment: FOOC. Bit of Moneybox. <click> Forgot to listen to the bit of The New Quiz I missed yesterday. No loss really.

Walk (unabbreviated) walked in the grey gloom & bracing cold wind. Brrrrr.

Freecell score: 100%, running average: 81%.

Entertainment: Bill Gates on BBC News. It's amazing how normal he seems compared with the Reichsleiter.

Bryan Adams Live at the Albert Hall.

World about Us on Alba: wild otters in Shetland, 1982. Narrated by Philip "don't tell him your name Pike" Madoc. Insufficiently inneresting.

AC/DC live at Donnington. Back in Black man, no SR71 though. . You'd think they could have done a flyover, like. .

Liam Neeson on Irish Railways. Strewth he looked young. 1978.

Tea: soup again: couldn't be arsed again. Entertainment: see above.

        Book. Other book.

Thing about guitar riffs on Sky Arts.

          Morning denizens

Grey day again and still a bit damp from last night's rain, though the wind has dropped. It's 4°C but apparently "feels like" -2°, so maybe the wind hasn't dropped that much, though the trees aren't shimmying. The expected high is only 5° rather than the usual 7° we've been getting recently, and the barometers are down some more at 1007/1015mB

Rainy out again though it's not expected to last, but more's expected this evening

Time for some exercise, so I popped round to the kebab shop to get my tea

I left it a bit later than usual, thinking the teatime rush might have died down. Turns out it doesn't

Had a lovely evening out with some more of HWMBO's ex-university friends who live here. After a nice lie in, now contemplating getting up for breakfast. We leave this afternoon, checking out at 1pm and flying at about 4pm.

Presumably going via some remote airfield in Newfoundland like characters in a Nevil Shute novel

Lots of Monkey Life as usual today, though I regret to report a relapse into sharks in the subsequent wildlife programming

And this evening, more of Character Limit up to the point where the $44 billion, along with a $2.5 billion handling fee, has arrived and Musk officially owns Twitter
