How's about this for a £16k/yr placement then:

 Studying for a degree in Software or Electronics/Electrical Engineering with a Software bias, or related subject.
 Knowledge of C for embedded solutions
 Development using target based tools (JTAG, PIC and so on….)
     Knowledge / Experience of C++ or C#
     Scripting techniques and languages
 Development using mobile device SDK’s.
     Mobile Apps development.
 Developing with graphics tools (OPEN GL ES 2.0)
 Detail knowledge of Embedded Linux
 Ability to work to deadlines

Stone me, they don't want much from a student.

I can't do half of that.

      That's for a software engineer.

For the systems engineer it's a bit more reasonable:

      • Studying for degree in Systems, Mechatronic or Electronics/Electrical Engineering
      • Knowledge of microprocessors and electronic circuitry
      • Knowledge of software programming
      • MS Office literate (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

      Gisajob, I can do that.

      But not for £16k.

        • Knowledge of electronic circuitry
        • Knowledge of testing Software and electronic products
        • MS Office literate (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

16K's not bad for a work placement. Many industries expect them to do it gratis, and cover their expenses.

Right, next on my to-do list is 'get dressed'.

Probably ought to do it before the kids get home.

It's OK, the government will send them on a one day course as part of the Year of Code thing, so they'll be able to learn it then

Thankfully the company don't do major automotive controls so less chance of unintended accelerations.

                  Feck.

An email came around informing all that there's a scabies outbreak in the esteemed customers up the hill.

I foolishly read the nhs thingie about scabies & now I'm itching all over.

I was diagnosed with scabies once as a kid. It turned out I didn't have scabies, I had eczema, and that I reacted badly to the scabies lotion (Scabilon IIRC). I still remember being plunged into a cold bath screaming because my skin was burning, the result being I was shivering and screaming.

Not that it's left me mentally scarred or anything...
