Just out of interest WTF is the RAID log you have to write in? AFAIK, only DASD and associated hardware would write to that, and what is this grid, are you in the Matrix perchance? Ever heard of the KISS principle?

Yep and I'm sure Suity has to. However, once things are overly complex actually trying simplify them fails the KISS test so its easier just to find the minimum interference approach and hope it works.
