Another chap got stitched up by work associates into a risky investment and found out he had signed as a guarantor. They all pleaded poverty and dissappeared. Fortunately his core work took off and he is back above water (and wiser) after a tough 12 months.
Essentially his past 5 years work has been as if he had been on minimum wage for all he has to show for it.
Just be careful, diversify your risks and if it looks too good to be true...
Yep, plan B's do generally appear to be risky and so I don't have one. I'm happy having just one plan A (at a push my plan B is 'go permie').

Nah hold on, he's got a point... For quite some time I have thought "No", enough is enough. There is too much bickering in General. There are cliques and cosy little groups of people who know each other's humour too well and this really does put off new people from coming on to the site. Wouldn't it be great if we could all just get along together, be nice, be open, warm and welcoming to new comers and treat everyone who uses the forum with respect. Yes, even those ******** idiots who ask the most stupid questions and expect a sensible answer. Why do we pick on new people the way we do? Is it some kind of herd mentality where this kind of behaviour is deemed acceptable? This lad is spot on and for once we have an apparent Scot who isn't full of bile and viciousness. I tell you what, let's say a big ***** you to the past decade of the forum being the way it is and listen to this guy. If he says all the smart arse comments should be in Light Relief then let's put them in Light Relief and see what happens. Maybe we could also move some of the questions from the professional areas of the site into General and have some proper discussions in here about contracting rather than the dull unfunny shit: that gets spouted every day. So come on. LET'S DO THIS!! We could make him a new mod too so he can show us how the forum should be run. HIGH FIVES ALL ROUND!!

So come on Dundee - do you like films about gladiators?

BTW, this thread would have fitted nicely in "Business / Contracts" and we would then have worked to keep the thread on topic. As it is you can see some good answers in this thread mixed with some light-hearted banter. This forum has been around in one shape or other for over 10 years now. The groups you see as cliques are people who do kind of know each other and will take the piss. Join in or don't, but don't expect the forum to bend to your way of thinking just because it matches your stereotypical view of how a forum should function.

Wouldn't it be simplier just to rename General - Gladiators

then after a month or so you could open a new friendly, professional General forum which no one ever used....

Might be worth a try We did try to put General down the rankings a couple of years ago in an attempt to make the forums more professional. We had Business / Contracts and Accounting / Legal at the top and General lumped in with LR at the bottom of the list. Forum traffic tailed off very quickly, putting General back at the top caused usage to rebound. Make of that what you will...

I still owe Minestrone a pint for telling me to sort my tulip out on that one!

If we just do a forum where Northernlad is banned from I predict a doubling in posts from newbies.
