Of course, staying away in B&B/hotel has got to be less hassle than the travel taking into account:-

1. Hotel/B&B ain't got the same home comforts as at home.
2. If you're away you're away from loved ones (although I'm sure some contractors I've met in the past prefer this!)

Just about to start one with 2hr drive or 3hr train. Going to start and look at wfh once in. It's a good opportunity otherwise I wouldn't do it. I'm also going to look at b&bs nearby and see how the prices compare. 4hrs a day driving won't equal a happy family! 12months max methinks if that is the case. Anyone (sensible) do a 2hr+ commute?!

You will probably have to stay in B&B's, it's just way too long. You might be able to manage one day a week, but I imagine you'll end up being away during the week.

Once you get in a routine it's not too bad, but I would not go beyond 12 months.

I did have a 2.5 hour commute, I stayed in B&B's. If I were you I would just use days off to get back on Wednesday or Thursday say once or twice a month. In my view 1.5 hours is the limit for a daily commute and that's tough.

Anyone can get a permie job close to home. Piece of p7ss. Some choose to take a chance, roll the dice and aspire to better things.

WHS, Loads of permie roles close to where I live but very few contracts utilising skills I have or want to enhance, hence I commute 2 hrs each way into London, journey is not too bad as the bulk of it is sat on half empty Virgin train, can spend the time working or relaxing, its still a long day but the rate I'm on means I can book a fair amount of time off to improve the work/life balance. Oh and that Jeff geezer sounds like a right

I did two hours every day, give or take, for six years and didn't go down the B&B route, it was nice to have my own bed at the end of the night. Bit of a pain if you wanted to go out for drinks but hey ho!

I'm finding the 10 mins commute a bit difficult to adjust to atm

+1 and I won't stay away on a regular basis, so 1 hr 45 mins is my limit. I've been doing 1 hr 45 mins for over 2 years now on a 2 to 5 day a week basis.

I try and avoid anything more than an hour on a daily basis. I'll take a bit more if I can WFH a few days a week otherwise i'll stay locally or find something else.

I'm in the hour max team too, anything over that and I am struggling, I must be very spoilt...
Rented a flat last time I was looking at 1:30 each way !!
On the other hand, missus is doing my swede in at the moment so maybe a live-away might be best for my next one !

I had a 10 minute commute once and it was actually too short.
I naturally adjust my morning routine to leave for work as late as possible to arrive for 9am. By the time I was sat down at my desk I was still half asleep yawning and no use to anyone. I like to have at least 30 mins commute just to get used to conscious thought again. I will read a book or the news to get my brain working at full speed. I never 'work' on the way into work if I'm on a train.
