I train it a few days, drive a few days and stay over 1 night every couple of weeks when i go out for afew beers withthe rest of the folks. Train is ok. Get a good pair of sennheiser ear buds for £40 and you'll be able to sleep all the way. Just remember to set an alarm. I twice missed my stop after having a couple of beers... hence why I now stay over

I prefer to live in the middle of nowhere, so 1 hour is likely to be the norm for me, whether permanent or contract.Originally posted by Jeff MagintyGod, how desperate for money are you guys?Comment

What were you doing at the station for half an hour? Breakfast? Yoga? Cruising the toilets?Originally posted by Bellona View PostLast gig was similar :
6.40 leave house
20 mins to station
7.30 train arr 08:10
20 mins to client site, arrive circa 8.30
Left client at 4.30 for reverse journey, in about 6.30ish depending on train delays etc.
1st week a bit of a killer
1st month used to it
My commute is similar
06.40 leave house - drive to station
07.10 train (1st class ... natch)
07.50 tube
08.10 officeLast edited by Jubber; 15 November 2013, 19:33.Comment

Not always about money but a factor. Depends on the amount of work locally for one and also the type of roles you want and clientco's tooOriginally posted by Jeff MagintyGod, how desperate for money are you guys?
The longest commute I could stand is 1hr maximum, door-to-door. Even then I'd much rather it be significantly less than that. My current commute is about 35 minutes, which is just enough time to wake-up/wind-down. I suppose it's one of the benefits of being permie. As someone once said to me: A long commute takes years off a man's life.Comment

Reasonable number of local jobs in NE at the moment, all NHS paying up to £200, or there's one in Kent offering £500-550Comment

Just about to start one with 2hr drive or 3hr train. Going to start and look at wfh once in. It's a good opportunity otherwise I wouldn't do it. I'm also going to look at b&bs nearby and see how the prices compare. 4hrs a day driving won't equal a happy family! 12months max methinks if that is the case. Anyone (sensible) do a 2hr+ commute?!Comment

Anyone can get a permie job close to home. Piece of p7ss. Some choose to take a chance, roll the dice and aspire to better things.Originally posted by Jeff MagintyGod, how desperate for money are you guys?

Have you ever been a contractor yourself? If not what what right to you have to comment on contractors "desperation for money"?Last edited by No2politics; 17 November 2013, 00:44."You can't climb the ladder of success, with your hands in the pockets"

Any more than 1hr 45mins each way and it's B&B territory.Originally posted by JPennW View PostJust about to start one with 2hr drive or 3hr train. Going to start and look at wfh once in.
