Gypsies have traditionally (maybe more so in the past than today) been willing to take on and raise illegitimate babies, often from upper class families.

My primary school did a musical number about that -

"As brown as the berries that hang on the tree
Are the gypsies, the gypsies, the gypsies so free
But Gay, our Gay, our little gypsy Gay
Isn't made quite our way"

Can't find it on google, so presume it was a special invention by my school IIRC, Gay was blonde and not really a gypsy at all. No idea if the story had a moral!

Reading through some of the press reports about it, there were reports about another holidaymaker who saw a stranger with a young girl while he was returning from picking up his child from the onsite creche. If the site provided a creche for the purpose of looking after young children so that parents could have some time without them, particularly in the evening, then why didn't they avail themselves of this facility?

Possibly because the children had regular bedtimes, and the parents felt it would be better to stick to their routine, believing they'd be safe enough...

The blonde girl's parents have been traced. Doesn't sound like an abduction or anything similar.

Well surely all parents get all their appliances PAT tested as a matter of course, you can't be too careful.
