Not much to see here then.

iPhone 5c is 50 quid cheaper than the iPhone 5 and for that you get a plastic case which needs a cover to stop it getting scratched (which costs £25).

iPhone 5s is 20 quid more expensive than the 5 and you get a better camera, a new CPU with more power (and a new OS to swallow up the extra CPU power) and a finger print scanner. I for one, won't be storing my fingerprints on a phone thank you very much.

The only redeeming feature is that there is a new bling bling gold one which will sell to footballers wives, drug dealers, pimps and IT contractors. Ahh, go on then.

Any sensible system will not store your fingerprint, anymore than any sensible system will not store your password in plaintext.

That bit is going to hurt someone I know, who gold plates iPhones as a nice little sideline

Yep, I'm sure we can trust Apple not to install a secret back door so they can hand these prints over to the NSA.

Bit risky to explicitly say you won't do that, and then still do it, even for Apple.

Cos most IT literate people like to "play" with their devices and set them up how they want. You dont get that with Ibones and malware is like IT's version of natural selection - if your stupid enough to install in on your phone then you dont deserve to have one.

Most IT-literate people aren't nerds actually.

If the fingerprint reader system allows you to unlock your iCloud account (and I don't know whether it does or not), then there would need to be a central database of fingerprints. If it's only to unlock your phone, then you only need a local copy to access the one device.

The idea of Apple holding a central database of fingerprints is a little scary.
