What's SY on about? Is he just showing he knows all the stupid terminology PMs use to try and make developers think they are special in some way?
Can't stand these overly rigid process is everything PMs myself, process is just a tool to help get things done.
I've no idea what he's talking about either. It puts me in mind of the PM who demanded to know why no-one had told him about the communication problems.

Can anyone offer a translation into English?

Steps in a project :

Get budget.
Plan phase 1.
Hire staff.
Get cracking.

Define business case.
Get budget (or not )

I agree with originalPM, just make sure somebody is defining what is considered "success criteria" before development starts and work towards that.
Precisely what I am trying to do. You need a definition of done before you start, and deadlines otherwise you are just writing blank cheques and in which case you really don't need a PM, or a board for that matter.
This thread really sorted out the wheat from the chaff didn't it.
