I need to hire someone. I need a good dev with some commodity skills, and the agency I came through (+ the others I tend to deal with when I'm looking) are a bit niche so they don't really have anyone suitable and keep sending us all sorts of jokers and chancers, of which we already have quite enough thank you very much.

What is the best way to go about locating the right person?

Sorry to cut back to the "how do I find someone" rather than "who on CUK can code", but have you considered the obvious choices:

- Stick an ad on JS
- Stick an ad on the StackOverflow job board
- Phone another agent... Java is hardly a rare skill

Are you personally trying to find someone, or helping your client find someone?

btw where in the country is this, and/or is it workable remotely? I'd be interested if I wasn't snowed under, unless it's enterprise java where you just write masses of XML to connect all the frameworks together (I'm still a fan of DAOs!)

helping the client. We have another agent on the case but they aren't coming up with much. It's in the SE, some remote working is a possibility but you'll need to show your face occasionally. Direct jobserve add is a nice idea, might suggest that.
