Crikey. I've been coding for 20+ years and I have no clue what GoF pattern names are...though I'm sure I've used them (without knowing that I've used them).

Surely this problem only eliminates the dunces as it's quite simple.

You would be amazed what proportion of developers are dunces... certainly when I've hired people and I believe it's representative.

Quite possibly. Better that than hiring the wrong ones.

Unless you are a mega corp with a reputation, like Goog, Amazon etc I would just laugh at your face. What rate you paying? 1000 per day ? Suckers like you pay 200 per day and expect a highly trained architect to rock up and answer your "techie" question and work their arse off. Yeah and pigs can fly.

It's a fairly small co, rate would be ~ £500/day for the right person. Which wouldn't be you with an attitude like that. We need a competent programmer who knows java well and a few other common bits and bobs. TBH, most programmers aren't competent, it's like trying to hire a mechanic when most of them only do clutches and have never seen brakes.

Anyway, you're rather missing the point of the post, which is what's the best way to find someone? If you can give intelligent feedback on what sort of interview questions to ask rather than ranting like a spoiled dickwad who's just been told he can't recode the whole thing in python that would be helpful.

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'
