From the poster who responded in another thread with "This is the most idiotic comment I have ever heard from a "non religious" person. '"

Exactly what are you defining as "early church" here? Because that bears little resemblance to the early church described in Acts where loads of people were converted and baptised immediately (Philip in Acts 8 for example). I assume you mean early as in a few centuries old, and specifically the R.C church?

Lust was seen as a sin as it corrupts relationships and can cause deep emotional unhappiness. This was common in Greek thought around this time and earlier. Even Socrates was glad of his later impotence as it freed him 'from the tyrant below'.As St Paul said, 'it would be better if you were like me' i.e. celibate...
Correct - Jesus said that Lust is as bad as adultery.

...but if you can't then be married for procreation. ... Physical homosexual behavior is in the same category as using contraception, it is sex for pleasure, therefore lust and sinful.
That's simply incorrect. Paul said that it was better to be celibate but that this was impossible for most people, so husband and wife should come together rather than be tempted into lust and sexual immorality, NOT that they should do so for procreation alone... in fact the verses in question (1 Cor 7) doesn't even mention procreation.

The whole "sex has to be for procreation" is more R.C. claptrap, as is all the guilt around sexual urges.

Apologies, my view is a little Rome centric.

Effeminate men are not always gay, and gay men are not always effeminate. Do people seriously still think like this?

I agree with your second point however, for lots of reasons I don't feel comfortable going into.

Yep, this pisses me off. I've been with Frau D. for nearly 25 years and we've not got around to tying the knot and why should we? We're a pretty good functioning unit who have brought up a family and are a pretty normal part of society yet because we haven't undertaken this old fashioned act we're still considered as single units and get none of the benefits if we had of. I think it is mighty unfair and stamp my foot whenever I get the chance...

just had the thought that if it was all about procreation, we could see gays being booted out the apse, whilst they let test tubes in through the nave
