Been in a regime pretty much all year which has got a bit more serious lately.

Hired a personal trainer who makes me keep a food diary and weighs me and measures body fat % every Friday morning. Initially had good results then plateau'd a bit. He seems to frown at just about everything - even fruit...

Mrs is suffering from acid reflux so she's on a healing diet which I've joined in on and started losing again which is nice. It's very restrictive and dinner every night is pretty much some fish with salad.

Been off the sauce for 2 1/2 years now and picked up 5 kung fu (wing chun) belts since. This is really more of a general lifestyle change than a temporary diet or regime.

Getting rid of that last bit of belly fat at age 40 is quite a challenge - but doable. Doing a lot of intense cardio (HIIT) and weight (muscle) gain as well as weird and wonderful kettlebell swinging/jumping up and down/vipr training with PT... It's really down to the food though, one bad slip up and a week's worth of training is negated. Horribly unfair but that's the way it is...

Can start posting up weekly number here if anyone's interested? Weight I'm expecting to go up/stay the same due to muscle increase but fat % I want to go down. Not sure how reliable the machine at my gym is for that though... I'm told the only way to really measure body fat is to be immersed in a tank of water?

I'm naturally skinny as well, just picked up a bit of a spare tyre during my wild years.. Mostly gone now just the last bit to go which is stubborn as *&$%...

One cause is bad breathing habits. In through the nose, out through the mouth, warms and moistens the air. Gasping cold air in through the mouth tends to lead to irritation and leave you vulnerable to infection.

I also think that people tend to overdo things initially. A pulse meter and being strict with yourself can help with that.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I got an exercise bike a couple or 3 months ago and have gone from a completely sedentary lifestyle (sometimes I don't leave the house all week) to cycling 30-60min 2-4 times a week.

My legs have certainly gained more muscle definition but my weight change: damn all. And while the "muscle weighs more than fat" line could be a factor, I see no visible sign of any change in the area I actually have fat - I'm basically a thin person with a bit of a belly and now I'm a thin person with a bit of a belly and fairly nice legs/bum.

Alas you may need to cut out some carbs. Or go on a weight loss boot camp. Slimmeria is good.

Have you changed your diet at all?

I wasn't gaining weight before I started exercising - well a pound every few months. A few hundred calories a day extra output should make a difference therefore, I am hardly scoffing kebabs anyway otherwise I'd have been piling on the pounds previously as I did no exercise at all!

Think of it like there being two separate dials - exercise controls strength and fitness whereas diet controls weight.
If you want to lose weight, turn down the calories. If you use more calories than you take in then you will lose weight.

I did the Insanity DVD set and have now started the sample plan in the awesome book Infinite Intensity (if you buy that you will never need another book about physical training). I also switched from having lunch off the van at work to having a graze box each day and sticking to it and only it. Apart from stopping taking sugar and tea these were the only changes I made.

I have lost almost 2 stone (1lb short but I am trying to put weight back on now) since December.

Just get dysentry. I'm sure that would be quicker and easier when it comes to losing weight.

Drinking lots of water and green tea (instead of coffee) helps as well.

I'll +1 to the diet comment as well. I did exercise + no change in diet for years and saw zilch results. very frustrating and ultimately a waste of time if you want to burn away fat. It's like having one foot on the accelerator and another on the brake at the same time.

Well ... yes it would but Mrs MUN is already annoyed at the mess I make at home ...
