Very interesting post.Originally posted by escapeUK View PostFunny you should say that, every time I start to lose weight / get fit do I get a massive cold or flu. Not a coincidence in my opinion.
Does anyone else get this? Is there any indirect causation (like starting diet in January)? Does anyone have any solution I can try?
Spent most of the weekend in bed. I did jog a mile yesterday and today - and swam 400 metres. But for me thats like a holiday.Comment

I had this exact problem at the start or the year. After having to take a month off from the gym due to Christmas and getting my dissertation finished I tried to get back into training 3 times. Each time I was hit by a massive head cold that would start almost immediately. I even spent 2 days in bed from the first one.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostVery interesting post.

It was June before I got back to any training and was very careful to ease back in to it.Coffee's for closersComment

Normally people get ill when they take time off work. On a day to day basis the with work there is a certain level of daily stress and the body goes into a classic flee or flight type state. Additional stress pumps more adrenaline into the body which staves off illness. When the form of stress is removed (such as time of at Christmas or a summer holiday) all of a sudden the body relaxes and becomes more susceptible to illness. Had the same situation for years, but in the last few I don't seem to get ill either during work time or down time (which is nice).Originally posted by Spacecadet View PostI had this exact problem at the start or the year. Went on a serious get fit drive at the start of the year: no booze, no coffee, run every day, 5 fruit and veg a day.
Still on the no coffee and roughly 5 a day.
Having the odd drink now, but really only 1 to 2 beers on a Friday/Saturday, running every other day.
Weight loss was never a problem as I'm one of those annoyingly naturally slender people.
Feeling rather good, thanks for asking.Hard Brexit now!

My 5:2 diet has turned into a 6:1....
Fast on Mondays, not easy but I can live with it. You dont get the weight loss but it's quite easy to 'maintain'.
Supplementing this with some dumbell work at home to try to counteract desk life impact on upper body muscle + footy + 12 mile bike rides.
Just got a Motorbike though - this isn't going to help the exercise amount....
Saw a good weight loss technique. Forget all the fancy options. Get some graph paper, mark on current weight and target weight up the side, time across the bottom with a line going down (no more than 1lb a week).
Each day in the morning - weigh yourself and mark on the graph. FORGET other factors, dehydration, just ate etc.
IF you are above the line that day, skip treats, take the stairs, walk at lunch for a bit, do a BIT more moving.
IF you are below the line, have that treat if you want it.
Rinse and repeat
It's simple, doesn't cause you too much grief (which is why you give up all the other diets) so you stick to it and it just gives you that bit of extra incentive during the day.Comment

Put on a bit of timber over the start of summer with a few too many barbeques and holidays.
Have cleaned up my diet and bought a bike and have lost 9lbs in the last 4 weeks.Comment
