And FINALLY it's over.
£12000 in legal fees, another £10000 to spend as we got closer to Tribunal.
The Local authority chose a school that was the wrong fit and we've been taken to a few weeks before Tribunal.
Two schools we wanted decided they couldn't meet needs. The one we wanted, left it until a week ago to assess, and even though they said they could do it for a year, they reckoned longer term they couldn't do it.
LA stuff with the an ex-borstal for SEMH kids. Even the headmaster said he wasn't sure, but said probably and so the LA ran with it.
Then when our last school fell through, they thought they had us and were going to send him to a school we had said was wrong. Our experts said, no. Had to pay a fortune for reports.
Then on Friday last week we had an offer from a specialist school outside of county which was more expensive than all the others. They told us they would fight and that we'd have to move or pay transport costs (£25-£30k a year).
Then our expert went to the school they said, and after meeting the headmaster he admitted it was wrong for our son, and withdrew.
So with a few days to go until I had to bite the bullet on another £10k, the local authority threw in the towel. We get the school offered and they pay for all transports.
Turns out the school had never said they could, said they might if they get the new paperwork and the incompetence of the LA meant we had to fight them all they way! Pity I can't claim costs.
So after what 8 years, we have a proper school for my son. Thank **** for that. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

It’s them knowing you won’t be able to claim costs of litigation, which is bonkers

Well done Sir, your tenacity paid off, it is an effing disgrace that you have to fight just to get your kid in the right environment for them.
Just think how many parents get fobbed off as they don’t have the money or skills to fight for their child.
My daughter has ADHD & ASD and is now – with a lot of help - at university.
Without being able to afford private help I dread to think where she would have been now. Don’t get me wrong it’s not plain sailing now and the lockdown is really not helping, but she is in a much better place than she was at 13, no thanks to CAMHS.I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this
