        I used to have trouble with a woman at work being nasty to a few people, including me.

        Then I realised she had a lovely pair of tits, so I started being extra nice to her, which got her off my back at least. She even came over and joined me for lunch yesterday.

          +1 Couldn't agree more. Writing the tulip down helps prevent depression when you're under attack because it stops the brain ruminating on the problems as much, the reason being that it doesn't want to risk forgetting the detail of the problem.
          Rumination leads to depression.

          To the OP's child: Get applying for other jobs intensively, for a higher rate of pay, and once you get one get out of the current job as soon as possible. Don't give them any notice at all, just get out of there.
          Forget unions, compensation or justice, they are of no use to the young.

            What was wrong with your eyes before that point or was she covering herself up?
