As the mainly come from Indian they would wander why on earth I'm talking about someone else.merely at clientco for the entertainment -
It's a very shoddy position to maintain that a word's meaning is driven by its structure and etymology rather than by its usage.Originally posted by eek View PostContext is everything. Even by Churchills standards that is really clutching at straws.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostWell I always thought that a paki shop was not necessarily run by people of Pakistani descent - but one which opened very long hours and supplied a great range of items. i.e. it is a complientary term.
If the word is complimentary in your opinion and you deem it has no racial overtones at all, at lunchtime in your office shout out to all your colleagues 'I'm just heading off to the Paki shop does anyone want anything?'
Then come back and tell us when you're getting benched. What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

It would be more sensible to pop round your local Asian run corner shop and ask them to put up stickers in their windows saying 'Nominated for paki shop of the year'.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostEven by Churchills standards that is really clutching at straws.

WHS. Churchill, Brillo et. al. have really gone down in my estimation by their juvenile keyboard warrior attitude a.k.a. say stuff on t'internet they wouldn't say in real life in a work context, say. If you think it's right then use it all the time and argue your case to the end.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostEven by Churchills standards that is really clutching at straws.

What would you know about normal discourse? Calling people cretin is not normal.Originally posted by sasguru View PostYou're avoiding the issue. You claim to have many Asian firends (as have I). Why not call them Pakis in normal discourse and see where that gets you?

And I struggle to believe you have any friends.Comment

Since when have you been know to argue your case? Why not just call us cretins like usual? Prove to me how thick you are.Originally posted by sasguru View PostWHS. And I am sorry I was ever up in your estimation - that upsets me. I must have been doing something wrong.Comment
