You're avoiding the issue. You claim to have many Asian firends (as have I). Why not call them Pakis in normal discourse and see where that gets you?

It only becomes racist when used in a racist way or has became a racial epithet.
Thus the word in the UK is racially offensive.
More precisely when uttered by a white person it is racially offensive.
