        Running both motors for a couple of minutes should give enough charge to start the flat one on its own afterwards. If it doesnt then there is a problem with the charging circuit (alternator etc) or the battery itself may need replacing as it is not holding a charge.

            I would have thought it would be unlikely that the electronics would be damaged, it is protected. Just detach the earth first to prevent spark over when you detach the live.

                      I think it has something to do with intelligent batteries and charging circuits. BTW, some newer engine management systems are susceptible to electronic interference. All in the name of environmental control.
