That's nice. What is your point? While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.' -
You have mistaken socialism for philanthropism.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostI absolutely and completely believe this. If socialists do care so much about people then they would act according to their consciences. many do and most of these people do so without moaning about the rich. Then at the other end of the spectrum we have the very rich who give much of their money away Gates, Carnegie all the great Philanthropists.
So then how many socialists who spend their lives preaching socialism and berating the rich are there who genuinely care for the poor?
If socialists really cared they would go out and earn a fortune and give it away. One thing is for certain anyone who has made it themselves would not want to let a government redistribute their wealth for them.
My wife has been to Aberdeen for a funeral today. Only one on her side of the family to turn up. her mother and aunt gave her such a hard time.. the former saying she was showing off and the latter who lives in edinburgh saying that the wind was too dangerous and she should'nt travel. Neither was motivated by duty or benevolence but simply did not want to be shown up as not bothering to turn up.
I am a great believer in actions speaking louder than words, and when someone tells me to pay up for the good of others I never believe that they actually care for "the others"
Socialism seeks to change the economic system so that ownership of the means of production moves from capiltalists to workers.
Philanthropists seek to give money away to good causes that they deem.
Different things, you see.
I can charitably say that you've made an error of logic as follows:
Philanthropists care about poor people
Socialists are not philanthropists
Therefore socialists do not care about poor people.
I expect you can now see where you've gone wrong.

I've never heard you say anything nice about AtW before.Originally posted by sasguru View PostI personally know several people who have got rich from scratch and enhanced lives and communities around them in doing so.
You're like a stuck record. Anything which doesn't put money in your pocket, or stops you putting it there, is "socialist". Damn those socialist Americans, pushing their leftie agenda on usOriginally posted by DodgyAgent View PostWhy not trust the employee to make their own decision? and who are you to judge that a business should/should not be viable based on an arbitrary figure conjured up by a bunch of self serving socialists?
Pubs certainly are. I suppose more to the difference in rates/rent primarily.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostHow much is petrol up north then? 2p off £1.30 isn't significant BTW.
As for supermarkets and pubs I can't believe there's much difference when comparing like for like.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

I'm sure you can get a cheap pint in a London 'workies' if you try hard enough just as you can spend £6 on a bottle of Italian lager in Manchester hotel bar.Originally posted by d000hg View Post

If all low wage workers lived where it was cheap who would polish DA's walnut desk for £6 ph?Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Yep. If someone just wants a job to get out of the house and meet people, they should be able to agree to a wage lower than a figure dictated by someone else. Ultimately it should be between the employer and employee without government interference.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostWhy not trust the employee to make their own decision? and who are you to judge that a business should/should not be viable based on an arbitrary figure conjured up by a bunch of self serving socialists?
An interesting comment I heard recently from a youngster who wanted to start at the bottom to learn his trade properly was that a so-called "minimum wage" actually ends up being a "maximum wage" for many.Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.Comment
