Really, cheap as chips? Cause round the corner chips cost £1.40. I haven't lived anywhere else the 8 years I've been here. But I'm sure if you took London out of the average salary computations you'd see the average fall to the floor. Average salaries around here are an amazing £16K.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostThere are plenty of places in the UK where the cost of living is cheap as chips. As for manufacturing it is up to Cameron to block out the job destroying employment laws that disincentivise people from employing others. Yes the balance of the welfare system needs to be adjusted accordingly.
Manufacturing is still reasonably strong, its just that it doesn't require as much labour as it did previously. And so it gives the impression that it is not strong. Take a look at the figures..its actually not doing that bad.McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."

The poshest place in Durham, a rather nice champagne/cocktail bar, charges £7 for proper cocktails. That's literally the most expensive price for a drink here. I very much doubt anywhere charges more than £4 a pint, and that would be Cobra in an Indian restaurant... I haven't seen a pub charge more than £3.50 here. £2.50 more the median.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostI'm sure you can get a cheap pint in a London 'workies' if you try hard enough just as you can spend £6 on a bottle of Italian lager in Manchester hotel bar.
If all low wage workers lived where it was cheap who would polish DA's walnut desk for £6 ph?
