Anything which doesn't put money in your pocket, or stops you putting it there, is "socialist"
Hmm. As a rough rule of thumb, not far off probably.

Really, cheap as chips? Cause round the corner chips cost £1.40. I haven't lived anywhere else the 8 years I've been here. But I'm sure if you took London out of the average salary computations you'd see the average fall to the floor. Average salaries around here are an amazing £16K.

Manufacturing is still reasonably strong, its just that it doesn't require as much labour as it did previously. And so it gives the impression that it is not strong. Take a look at the figures..its actually not doing that bad.

If all low wage workers lived where it was cheap who would polish DA's walnut desk for £6 ph?
The poshest place in Durham, a rather nice champagne/cocktail bar, charges £7 for proper cocktails. That's literally the most expensive price for a drink here. I very much doubt anywhere charges more than £4 a pint, and that would be Cobra in an Indian restaurant... I haven't seen a pub charge more than £3.50 here. £2.50 more the median.

Comparing Manchester city centre with "the north" isn't accurate.
