Until you have to meet a regular payroll, embrace the legalities of emplying people you will never begin to understand what "having a business" is really like. Building a porn site and sharing some of the revenues with a couple of other contractors occasionally is not a business. It s a tax dodge.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone -
It's nothing to do with IT. A small business employs other people, has many non-consecutive clients, and contributes to the environment around it in some way mainly by providing jobs.Originally posted by doodab View PostYour very keen to blather on about the benefits of free markets, yet when people embrace them you mock them for it.
I provide a service, people pay for it. I have a few good customers and spend time touting for business when I have free capacity. How is that not a small business? Why is it that because the service is related to IT it's somehow qualitatively different than decorating, or plumbing, or accountancy? Is it because you find computers confusing?
A sole trader doesn't qualify as a small business to my mind. In actual fact most IT contractors get away with paying less tax and so contribute less to society.Hard Brexit now!

You've steadfastly avoided the issue: you're not creating wealth because you don't have the creativity to create a real business.Originally posted by doodab View PostNot at all. It's more a case of "if I can have a decent standard of living then why shouldn't everybody", and when you look at it objectively a system that works to concentrate wealth in the hands of the already wealthy is a big part of the problem.

It takes more than "creativity" to create a business and make it successful. You also need opportunity, talent and hard work. It's no wonder you decided to go permie.Originally posted by sasguru View PostYou've steadfastly avoided the issue: you're not creating wealth because you don't have the creativity to create a real business.
