          So you're saying you can afford a nice watch or a holiday, but not both? Interesting.

          Anyway, back on topic, if you want the best, get a Patek, but there are a lot of ugly ones. If you want good quality with a more subtle appearance, depending on the piece, there's a British company called Bremont that adapt Swiss movements to a high standard.

                  Me: Rolex Datejust with salmon tinted dial / diamond indices / diamond cut bezel / jubilee bracelet.

                  Missus: Rolex Datejust with blue dial / plain bezel / jubilee bracelet.

                  Bought mine for £3.5k in 2002 but the same watch now retails for £6k, missus paid £1.8k in 2000 and they retail for £2.5k now.

                  One flash of that and you'll be taking waterboarding lessons.
