Quitting Smoking

I adopted a simple three-step programme:
- Dial 999 because I'm having a heart attack and get rushed to the Coronary Care Unit;
- Undergo an acute angioplasty as quickly as it can possibly be done ("We don't have time to get written consent" are probably the most worrying words anybody has ever said to me);
- Have the cardiologist, as he pulls the gloves from his hands after completing the procedure, booming across the room: "It is smoking that brought you here, my friend" and then come over and shove his face right in mine and say "If you smoke again, you will be here again. If you are lucky."
What with one thing and another, that put me right offComment

It only works if your life is relatively stress free when you try to quit, otherwise it's horrible but doable. Use sweets or something as a substitution helps, anything to take your mind off it when you've got cravingsDoing the needful since 1827Comment

Although having a look online last night, even with NRT the quitting rate is less than 10%!
Anyway, 1 day in and I still feel pretty relaxed about it, already noticed I was coughing less this morning when I woke up.
The big test will be about 4 weeks from now when I know I've got a week away with a few nights drinking.Coffee's for closersComment

One thing to bear in mind (I'm sure you already know this, but there's no harm in repeating) is that if you decide one won't hurt a few months from now you will end up smoking at much the same rate as you did before you quit. I made that mistake the last time I quit.
