Neither are you if you think that needed pointing out. Any more pearls of wisdom?

Yes, it is unfair to most of those affected in Pakistan who probably never give Jihad against the west a thought and to the many Pakistanis in Britian who are British in all but colour but what MF says expresses how most normal people think. In WW2, did anyone want to hold back for fear of killing Germans who disapproved of Hitler or German kids who were to young to think anything about him at all? Of course not, when you think your own survival and/or that of your own society at stake nobody does.

I keep saying this but if our government is to defuse tensions it needs to be more dispassionate and even handed in how it operates, to avoid the inverted racism that says that if you are white British you have no right to a culture and nation of your own, that you must never complain about the many downsides of what is excessive and very poorly controlled immigration, that you must be silent even when you feel like a stranger in what used to be your own streets, that no minority can be criticised even when their beliefs and practices are ones we would rightly condemn in our own.

Since I no longer subscribe to any of that PC pretence, I will say that it is not just terrorism or the threat of Islamic attitudes imposed on us that causes resentment but criminal activity by some. This week we learned we are all paying £46 extra a year on our car insurance to pay for car crash scams. Google all the cases you can find, then check the origins of the names of those involved.

None that won't go over your head.

And you are the same person around 1993 with the terrorist bombs in London who would quiet happily blame anyone with an Irish accent?

Can you generalise a tad more please.... You can google the cases that have been mentioned and those that have been publicised by the daily whail or the sun, and what of those that are not publicised that do not pander to the general melee.

I think we have strayed somewhat from the original posters theme, as to the natural tragedy that has befallen a country and that is a warning that nature is a bigger force than we can reckon with.

Given that the Irish Constitution (pre 1998 Belfast agreement) laid claim to the Northern territories,it could be argued that the Irish State & thus its people were to blame for the terrorist acts.

OP was somewhat 'tired and emotional' following a couple of very nice bottles of Argentinian Malbec (not Chilean as previously reported) and wondering why people weren't putting their hands in their pockets this time round. I think we've discussed the negative image of Pakistan that we have in the west, and that some find it difficult, or don't want, to see past that to the suffering of the individuals affected by the disaster, or believe that money given might not go to those in need.

That is a bit like saying anyone who bought a Gary Glitter record is complicit in child abuse.

I went down to the Pakistani Cafe on Friday for a light lunch, place has been smashed up a few times by the locals.

Smashed up because he allows booze, plays western music and has Shylock's soliloquy on a sign on the wall.
