I just don't get this? I really don't see the problem?? Each to their own I suppose.

Maybe my muscular thighs act like big cushions.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

The old make a loss on the hardware and make it up on the software gag.

I could have sworn I saw a piece saying there will be a new iBooks site to download stuff for the iPad from and they'll charge extra for the ebooks of hardback editions. WTF!?
Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

By Apple's current standards, I think it will 'fail'.

The iPhone was successful because it crossed over into the mainstream and had Joe Public paying the ridiculous prices to have one. However, it had a winning combination of Apples design as well as a new take on mobile phone input (touch screen) to make it a must have device.

Wrt the iPad, the only thing I can see going for it is its price.

As such, apart from the fanboys who probably have a standing order with Apple for them to debit funds whenever they think of a new device, I only think a small proportion of Joe Public will buy into this due to the low (for Apple products) price. However, via word of mouth, I think Joe Public will soon realise that it is a pointless device which doesn't offer anything radical over a netbook.

Its use is not clearly defined which I think is a problem.

IMHO, its core positioning should have been as a media (movies, TV shows) tablet plus 'other stuff' rather than a device than can do a bit of everything.

I just had a look on the iTunes store for Neil Young's album Harvest, on the basis that it's been around a good while so the price won't be affected by promotions and such. UK price: £7.99; US price: $9.99.

Similarly for other artists I looked at.

I think it will be brought to meetings, when there's a need to quickly show off information while you've got the audience's attention rather than being caught faffing around with cables trying to set up a projector asking Mr IT where the network cable is to connect to the company server - etc
