Dad was in the forces so never really stayed in one place long enough to pick up a specific accent. Everyone says I have one but no-one can actually place it when I ask them what they think it is

You're missing the point. Don't worry about it.

Funny how that accent doesn't come out very well when you type it, tidy like.

              WHS.

We Lancastrians don't have accents. Though there is a bit of one in Burnley.

I speak Dutch with a regional accent, but have a pretty neutral accent in English.

Geordie living in South Wales and currently working in Swindon. Apparently my accent now has elements of all three.

Commiserations. I'm sure there are specialists who can help you with that.

What is a "regional" accent? England and Scotland are two constituent countries of the United Kingdom. You could say that educated speakers from the region around the capital in both countries are the definition of "standard" accents in each of those two countries, and accents based in other parts of those two countries are "regional". But actually there is much more regional variation in England than in Scotland. So Scottish accents in general tend not to be "regional", whereas most English accents are "regional".
