But I hold the view that evil is banal - it isn't big and it isn't clever.

In "Voyage to Venus", C.S. Lewis has a character, Weston, who has been taken over by Satan. One of the most chilling parts is the way that Satan uses intelligence as a tool, when it suits. But when not needed, he'll be mindlessly cruel and destructive.

Evil is usually banal because it arises from stupidity.
If "god-ness" (not a sp) is light then perhaps evil is mental darkness and ignorance.
    Hard Brexit now!

Actually I reckon speed of thought is as important in many jobs as being clever.
Erm, yes. Speed of thought is important as long as you think the right things. Somebody who thinks quickly and **ks it up is no use outside of merchant banking.

not strictly true. prevarication can be fatal. sometimes it's better to do the wrong thing quickly

Indeed. But I'd take it as a given that anyone who consistently kept coming up with the wrong answer, really really fast wouldn't stay in a job for long ...

And I suppose you're in testing because you graciously decided to forgo something more in line with your academic prowess?

No. I was doing something more in line with my academic prowess, making projections of future water requirements using spatial demographics techniques and statistics for a water board and being paid a pittance for it. Then someone offered me a tulipload of money to go around the country testing his polution modelling software.

sometimes people confuse intelligence with semantics, playing with words is a form of intelligence but so is Beckhams left boot

I'm surprised you haven't won the Nobel several times by now. After all your IQ is much higher than Richard Feynman's.
