Nobody in this thread has said anything remotely racist. If someone has experience of Indian ICTs then that is real experience, not racist experience.

How would you suggest those construction workers at the TOTAL plant adapt to being unemployed due to POLISH ICTs.
I reckon you're a bit of a bigot. Who may have an argument I can understand, but I don't agree with. Even a broken clock tells the right time twice a day.

I also think that the argument is a bit pointless, as I said before we can try to protect jobs but in the long run that'll just drive them away. As I said before adapt.

The polish ones are a different case - EU and all that, freedom of movement etc. While I don't really like how the company acted, for better or worse we're part of the EU and when you dance with the devil you pay the price, That's the price.

Or what about the other way - when we get transferred?

FFS Adapt or the jobs and the companies will go anyway.
Jobs competition is a very good thing. It keeps employers and workers on their feet and stops them becoming regular posters on CUK. The same applies to skills from Australia. I have no problem whatsoever as long as there are even/equal opportunities for workers to exchange from one country to another (like Australia) or even to open the gates to allow in workers when there are serious skills shortages.

Americans need visas to work here just as we need them to work there.

The disgrace is this inter company transfer scam that enables companies (they are all at it) to import cheap labour under the "nearshore"/"offshore banner". I dont even have any problem with the offshoring concept because it keeps you contractors from getting an unhealthy stranglehold on the skills market (less my 20% of course )

Every contractor who has seen examples of this should help the BBC with their story. Contractors are perfect for this because they are not answerable up the line to the IT directors as permies are. More often than not the managers who the contractors work for are equally dismayed by this scam but dare not say anything.

Got off your fat arses and for once take this opportunity to do something about it.

What (in your opinion) makes me a bigot? Because I can see the UK going to the wall and want to see it stopped?
You seem to think there is a global economy and that it is a level playing field.
The global economy is only open on the supply side. Consumers are still bound by local constraints.
The UK has no real manufacturing industry left because of globalisation, what little industry we do have left will go the same way if the powers that be do not sort it out.
They will not open the global economy to consumers because it will destroy the local economies of both supplier and consumer alike.
The global corporations want to be able to manufacture cheap but sell at a local rate. They have found more and more ways to reduce manufacturing costs but keep prices local to maximise their profits.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Ch4 are onto similar stuff also

Channel 4 News is looking to do a story for tomorrow's news about people who have had to take a pay cut as a result of the recession.
They are particularly interested in talking to freelancers and contractors who have had their rates reduced as a result of the country's economy woes.
If any Shout99 readers find themselves in this situation and would be happy to talk to Channel 4, please contact the producer, Ben King, on 07768 068 508 or email: ben.king@itn.co.uk
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

If I had to reason every argument we would be here all day. Particularly as some of our bretheren are more obsessed with minor points rather than the big picture.

I agree with you. This isn't about race, this is common sense, if you offshore roles and then bring in cheaper labour from abroad as well, the British worker is forced to to either compete or be unemployed we already have more people than jobs. Companies have been having their cake and eating it and it isn't on.

You only have to look at the car industry to see where this is going.

What's more offshoring doesn't work, I've seen it with my own eyes and what I'm talking about wasn't offshored to India it went to Hungry and the service they provide now is rubbish, it takes three times as long to get things resolved and takes any average of 2 phones calls instead of 1. This in the opinion of the customers receiving it. This has nothing to do with race, it has to do with Quality vs Cheapness and the two do not go together.

Who on here hasn't got wound up from speaking to a companies offshored customer service? The reason for this is because they read from Scripts and don't understand what you are saying and this is more than language barrier, they just don't understand how to deal with us.

the cost of living in this country is expensive so having cheap wages is not an option, ask yourself could you live on minimum wage? if you can't maybe should care more about this sort of thing.

Indeed. Companies should base themselves here and pay us top whack cause it's expensive to live here and they've an obligation to us to make sure we can live in a style we're accustomed too ...
